What's in a name? Destiny, faith, personality? Do we define ourselves by our name? Or does our name define us?
I was named rather awkwardly, and not at all like my name would suggest. My grandmother shouted out her idea for my name from the restroom. "Oh no!" She started shouting, my parents had thought she had broken something, or fell. "Oh no! I have the perfect name for the baby! Serenity!" And so Serenity I was named. Unpleasant, but there it is.
I'm not particularly fond of my name. That being said, I don't particularly hate it either. It's just there, a part of me I cannot change. Therefore, I often wonder about my name. Could it bring some special, new, or hidden meaning into my life? In the pursuit of knowledge I've looked it up, often. Several different sources have some pretty interesting ideas about what my name means.
The dictionary states, that Serenity is the state or quality of being serene, calm, or tranquil. Or as a secondary definition, it is a title of honor, respect, or reverence, used in speaking of or to certain members of royalty. "Why yes Princess Serenity, your name is absolutely serene!"
I've heard it said that my name should give me a peaceful disposition, but I don't know if names work that way. My name is also in the Serenity Prayer, as an encouragement to others, to give peace in difficult times, I wonder if I'm meant to be a living example of that?
One strange site even insists they can tell me my personality from my name. They say Serenity is a "self-reliant, creative in practical ways, independent diligent worker, who works best alone" but the site will also claim that my name is imbalanced, and for a small fee they will fix this problem lest I frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses heart, lungs, bronchial area, and tension or accidents to the head. Personally, my name feels pretty balanced.
So in all this confusion, how do I feel about my name? The jury is still out, because I sure don't know. Does anyone ever, truly know everything about who they are? We all grow, change, and evolve over time. Whether our name takes a part in that, well, it must just depend on the person.

Things I Used To Have
I used to have a home
But it was a dungeon of my parents' making
Now I have broken free and can fly
I found a true home in another's arms
I used to be an only child
Now I have five younger ones
All looking up to me to guidance
But all I can give them is love and be an example
I used to have a big brother
We weren't blood but that never mattered
But a cavern opened up between us
And life carried us on our own paths
I used to have an empty heart
But despite my deepest fears
I found someone who fills it overflowing
And who treasures it and keeps it safe
I used to be afraid
So many things plagued me
But slowly I am conquering
And I will live my l

A Short Story - The Light Beyond the Glass
There is always some sort of light shining beyond the glass.
The Sun, with its warm rays, blinding those who looked at it. Its beams glance off of the paneled glass of the Observatory dome, making it shine with a brilliance which was unfitting for such a dark place.
The moon, a pale reflection of its bright counterpart, is far gentler. Soft blue rays blanket the bare white tiles of the Observatory, making the dome shine with an ethereal brilliance from the inside.
On nights when the moon was pale and the Sun sank below the horizon, Bo could see the stars.
Countless in number, the

Dark Thought Pt. 2
All I had was given to you
My blood, sweat and tears
I gave you shelter from the floods
And I watched you throw away all
My faith, love and trust
Even though you promised me,
Knew I didn't let just anybody in
To gaze upon
My heart, hopes and insecurities
All on the line for you
But when I look back
You had everything to gain
And you did
While I lost everything
When I never had enough for myself

I often go to my name as a point to come back to when I feel lost. my name is very solid, somethiing that always stays true in my life. kylie, it has a laundrylist of meaning but my favorite is a word used commonly in aborigonal australian cultures to mean boomerang. As you know I've certianly been tossed aside in my life, but always come back strong. That's what my name means to me, it's a very important part of how I see myself
